Consecrating Canada to Our Lady

As part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of Confederation, the Bishops of Canada will be consecrating our country to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Not since the Marian Congress at Trois-Rivières in 1954, when Cardinals James McGuigan and Paul-Émile Léger consecrated the nation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, has such an act been undertaken. Given the challenges we face in our country, the hope is that each parish will welcome a renewed act of consecration to Our Lady as an important opportunity for the proclamation of the Church’s mission in our country and in service to the world.

We invite you and your parish communities to participate in the consecration of Canada during the weekend of July 1-2, 2017.

In light of the recent shooting at the Quebec City Mosque, praying & acting for peace has become more important than ever. Project Ploughshares has a number of prayers for peace on its website (; #3 is particularly relevant to us, as it calls on 'all the children of Abraham' - Jew, Christian & Muslim - to re-imagine a peaceful world. May our nation rediscover the grace of living together in peace! Amen.

Attached here is a letter to parishioners updating them regarding euthanasia and assisted suicide.

Please visit the website: for more information and for help in contacting your MPP.

Our Evangelical Neighbours – A Catholic Reflection on Evangelical Christianity

(CCCB – Ottawa)... Today, on the Feast of Saint Luke the Evangelist, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), through its Episcopal Commission for Christian Unity, Religious Relations with the Jews, and Interfaith Dialogue, has published a new resource entitled: Our Evangelical Neighbours – A Catholic Reflection on Evangelical Christianity. The resource provides Catholics in Canada an introduction to Evangelical Christianity by exploring its origins, similarities and differences to Catholicism. The resource was developed in close collaboration with The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC), an official dialogue partner of the CCCB, since 2010.

Canadians for Conscience

At our recent Priests' Workshop (Oct. 24-26, 2016), Bishop Fabbro asked us to have all parishioners sign on board (digitally) with the Coalition for HealthCARE and Conscience so that they can have direct contact with the people in the pews when the time comes to challenge the law on euthanasia. I know I want to stand in solidarity with all healthcare workers who refuse to take the lives of their patients: please consider adding your name to their campaign!

Praying for peace in Syria
on October 31, 2016

As previously announced by the Holy See, an international and ecumenical day of prayer is being held worldwide on October 31, 2016, for peace in the Middle East and especially for all the people of Syria. This is also part of the Pope's Apostolic Journey to Sweden to mark the ecumenical commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. The Day of Prayer for Peace is organized by the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Caritas Internationalis, and the Lutheran World Federation. The theme is on shifting relations from conflict to communion, with a focus especially on involving young people. Pope Francis, alongside Bishop Munib Younan, President of the Lutheran World Federation and the Rev. Martin Junge, the Federation's General Secretary, will lead a common prayer service based on the recently published Catholic – Lutheran "Common Prayer" liturgical guide. Development and Peace – Caritas Canada is promoting the day of prayer for peace. More information is available from CCODP as well as from Caritas Internationalis.

A Prayer for Vocations

Heavenly Father, bless Your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous priests, deacons, brothers and sisters.

Give those You have called to the married state and those You have chosen to live as single persons in the world the special graces that their lives require.

Form us all in the likeness of Your Son so that in Him we may love You more deeply and serve You more faithfully, always and everywhere.  With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
