Build Bethlehem Everywhere

Hello everyone! Click here for the document from our Canadian RC Trustees' Association which I referred to in the homily for the Nativity of John the Baptist last week. The wonderful quote about God encountering weakness is found on the second-last page. God loves us in our frailty! May God bless all our fumbling & weakness this day and always. Fr. Matt

Election Guide for Catholics

With a provincial election coming in the next month, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Toronto—as they have done in the past—has put together an Election Guide for Catholics, together with samples questions to ask of election candidates.  These are available online at  As the website states, “When you cast your vote in the Ontario General Election to elect members to Ontario’s Legislative Assembly you want them to create a more democratic society, robust economy, environmentally sustainable future and one that safeguards basic human dignity.”

Consecrating Canada to Our Lady

As part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of Confederation, the Bishops of Canada will be consecrating our country to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Not since the Marian Congress at Trois-Rivières in 1954, when Cardinals James McGuigan and Paul-Émile Léger consecrated the nation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, has such an act been undertaken. Given the challenges we face in our country, the hope is that each parish will welcome a renewed act of consecration to Our Lady as an important opportunity for the proclamation of the Church’s mission in our country and in service to the world.

We invite you and your parish communities to participate in the consecration of Canada during the weekend of July 1-2, 2017.

Our Evangelical Neighbours – A Catholic Reflection on Evangelical Christianity

(CCCB – Ottawa)... Today, on the Feast of Saint Luke the Evangelist, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), through its Episcopal Commission for Christian Unity, Religious Relations with the Jews, and Interfaith Dialogue, has published a new resource entitled: Our Evangelical Neighbours – A Catholic Reflection on Evangelical Christianity. The resource provides Catholics in Canada an introduction to Evangelical Christianity by exploring its origins, similarities and differences to Catholicism. The resource was developed in close collaboration with The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC), an official dialogue partner of the CCCB, since 2010.

Canadians for Conscience

At our recent Priests' Workshop (Oct. 24-26, 2016), Bishop Fabbro asked us to have all parishioners sign on board (digitally) with the Coalition for HealthCARE and Conscience so that they can have direct contact with the people in the pews when the time comes to challenge the law on euthanasia. I know I want to stand in solidarity with all healthcare workers who refuse to take the lives of their patients: please consider adding your name to their campaign!

News from the Diocese

Fr. Matt would like to draw your attention to the article on Dormer House, our new resource for men discerning a vocation to the priesthood. Michael Hartman from St. Boniface is currently residing there.
